Large Angel panel commissioned by ' Your Style PLC' for Liverpool bank restoration. Polished curved stainless steel panel and angels lit by colour-changing LED spotlights.

Commissioned by Argent via Number 9 gallery in Birmingham. The whole sculpture, Ascension, is situated in Building # 4, Brindleyplace, and stands 3m tall .Each angel is hand sculpted by Iestyn from 14 separate gathers taken from the furnace.

This angel sculpture was also designed to capture the light from the lifts as they travel nearby.

'Ascension' 2 – Produced for the British Glass Biennale 2003. The idea here was to evolve the human figure at the base of the piece into Angels which took off from the converging stainless steel ladder and flew around the top of the structure in enlightenment.

The first gather from the furnace; this is shaped with wet newspaper and will form the main torso. This is shaped with simple tools to form the basic features.

The piece is turned around and attached to a ' punty '. Here it can be seen being re-heated in the gloryhole prior to the shoulders and neck being worked on.

The head is added next and again welded into position. Each gather or limb must be positioned correctly when attached as the heat soon leaves the localised area.

Final adjustments are critical as once positioned, Iestyn moves onto another area of the figure.

Here Alba Martin, Iestyns' assistant helps heat the head for adjustment.

The lower leg is now applied. It is essential that Alba brings the gather the right shape and the right heat, otherwise the gather will not 'pull' correctly.

Almost complete and at its' most delicate; the angel is re-heated in the gloryhole for the last time.

The glass angels are by far the most demanding of the solid glass sculptures to manufacture. Iestyn has taken over 8 years to perfect the technique for creating these unique pieces of artglass; each is constructed from 14 gathers of glass taken directly from the furnace at over 1070 degrees.

Each separate gather is shaped by eye, then applied to the main form, re-shaped and welded into position.
